Sifuna Breaks Silence, Names People Who Wanted to Kill Raila During Protests

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has revealed that, during periods of heightened political tension in Kenya.

There were individuals who attempted to intimidate Raila Odinga by warning him that he risked being killed if he took part in protests.

Speaking during a recent political engagement, Sifuna recounted the intense pressure and fearmongering that surrounded the opposition leader whenever demonstrations were called.

According to Sifuna, these intimidation tactics were part of a broader strategy aimed at weakening the resolve of the ODM leadership and discouraging mass action.

He emphasized that at the height of political unrest, threats both real and fabricated were circulated widely, targeting Raila and those around him.

The goal, he said, was to instill fear and create doubts within the opposition ranks.

Sifuna noted that despite these alarming warnings, Raila consistently refused to be cowed. He described the ODM leader as a man deeply committed to justice, democratic space, and the rights of Kenyans to voice their grievances.

“Some people used to tell him he would be killed if he dared step out during protests,” Sifuna said, “but Raila always showed up, unshaken and determined.”

He added that Raila’s resilience served as a powerful source of inspiration for supporters who often looked to him for guidance and courage.

By standing firm in the face of danger, Raila reinforced the belief that the fight for a fair and just society required unwavering commitment.

Sifuna’s comments come at a time when conversations about political tolerance, civic freedoms, and state responses to dissent continue to dominate Kenya’s public discourse.

His remarks not only highlight the challenges faced in previous protest movements but also reaffirm the opposition’s enduring stance on standing up to intimidation while championing democratic ideals.
