“Greed Is Destroying ODM,” Kanchory Warns in Fiery Attack on Party Leadership

Lawyer Saitabao ole Kanchory has sparked fresh debate within Kenya’s political circles after claiming that “greed is destroying ODM,” warning that the once-powerful party is now facing a crisis of its own making.

Speaking during an interview shared widely on Sunday, Kanchory described the situation as a “tragedy of Shakespearean proportions unfolding before the country’s eyes.”

Kanchory, who previously served as Raila Odinga’s chief agent in the 2022 presidential election, said ODM’s internal problems stem from leaders prioritizing personal gain over the party’s ideals.

He argued that the culture of entitlement and internal rivalry has weakened the movement that once commanded national influence.

According to him, the party’s current challenges are not the result of external pressure but the consequences of decisions made by those tasked with safeguarding ODM’s legacy.

Kanchory insisted that the party must urgently embrace accountability and internal democracy if it hopes to regain the trust of its supporters.

His remarks quickly ignited reactions online, with some Kenyans agreeing that ODM has drifted from its reformist roots.

Others, however, accused Kanchory of attacking the party for personal reasons, noting his strained relationship with ODM since the 2022 election aftermath.

ODM leaders have not officially responded to Kanchory’s comments, but insiders suggest the party is aware of growing concerns about internal cohesion.

The remarks come at a time when ODM is marking two decades since its formation, with supporters expecting renewed direction ahead of the next election cycle.

Kanchory’s warning adds to the ongoing scrutiny of Kenya’s major political parties, many of which face pressure to adapt to shifting public expectations and internal demands for transparency.
