"The Final Nail in CCM's Coffin" Manyora Explains How Suluhu's Actions Damaged Her Own Party

According to seasoned political analyst Herman Manyora, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu may have placed “The final nail in CCM’s coffin.”

Potentially sending the historically dominant party into a long period of political obscurity.

He argues that her actions against opposition leader Tundu Lissu have inflicted deep and lasting damage on Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), a party that once seemed invincible.

Manyora explained that President Suluhu committed a “great disservice” to her own party by imprisoning Lissu, a move he deems completely unnecessary.

In his analysis, the CHADEMA candidate was not a genuine threat and would not have defeated Suluhu or the CCM political machine in a free and fair election.

By arresting and barring a rival she could have easily beaten, Manyora believes Suluhu showed weakness and needlessly “opened up CCM to attack” and public criticism.

The analyst detailed how Suluhu’s actions shattered the party’s carefully cultivated image of strength.

He likened a powerful political establishment like CCM to major institutions whose reputation keeps them strong, regardless of internal issues.

By jailing Lissu, Suluhu exposed the party’s “soft underbelly,” signalling a lack of confidence that has now eroded public trust and destroyed its aura of invincibility.

Manyora concluded that this single act could have devastating long-term consequences for the party.

He predicts that after Suluhu’s leadership, CCM risks fading into the political cold, and it may take decades for its influence and prestige to return.

He further warned that this instability could also impact Suluhu's own political future, suggesting she might not even complete her five-year term in office .

If corrective measures are not taken to heal the nation from the controversial election.
