Political temperatures have risen following remarks by Obama Matampash, who openly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s reported plan to visit the late Raila Odinga’s grave in Bondo.
Matampash described the move as hypocritical, arguing that Gachagua’s political history with the late opposition leader makes such a visit insincere and opportunistic.

According to Matampash, Gachagua’s public attacks and lack of support for Raila Odinga during his lifetime disqualify him from paying homage now.
He stated that such an act would appear more like a public relations stunt than a genuine show of respect.
“Other opposition leaders may visit Odinga’s family freely, as they once worked with him in their political journeys,” he explained.
“Gachagua, however, neither worked with nor showed support for Raila during his lifetime.
It would be insincere for him to now appear to care about him or his family,” Matampash added.
Matampash further emphasized that Raila’s legacy deserves to be honored by those who genuinely stood by him and contributed to his long political struggle.
He suggested that political leaders should avoid exploiting moments of grief to gain sympathy or public visibility.

“Respect should be shown through consistency, not convenience,” he remarked, pointing out that true allies of the late Raila are easily known by their past actions, not sudden displays of concern.
The criticism comes at a time when national attention remains focused on how Kenya’s political class is responding to the passing of the veteran opposition leader.
Many Kenyans continue to celebrate Raila Odinga as a symbol of resilience and democracy.
While others use the moment to reflect on his impact and those who opposed him.
