Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again found himself at the center of political debate following fresh claims about his influence and role in current affairs.
The controversy was sparked by remarks from Mithamo Muchiri, the former Director of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Who shared his thoughts on recent developments involving Gachagua’s Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP).
Muchiri explained that the withdrawal of the DCP candidate from the Mbeere North parliamentary race was purely voluntary.
He dismissed speculation that the decision resulted from outside interference or political intimidation.
According to him, the candidate made the choice independently, without any form of pressure.
However, Muchiri noted that many members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) expressed disappointment with the move.
Their goal had been to defeat the DCP contender in the polls to make a political statement against Gachagua.
The withdrawal, therefore, denied them the opportunity to showcase their dominance in the region and weakened the contest they had anticipated.
In his assessment, Muchiri painted a rather grim picture of Gachagua’s current political standing.
He argued that the former Deputy President’s influence has significantly faded and that he now operates more as a political broker than a key decision-maker.
According to Muchiri, Gachagua has shifted focus to campaigning for candidates from different parties, allegedly in exchange for monetary rewards or favors.
Muchiri’s comments reflect the growing divisions and power struggles shaping Kenya’s political scene.
They also shed light on how alliances are constantly shifting as leaders seek relevance ahead of the next election cycle.
For Gachagua, the claims signal an ongoing battle to maintain political significance amid changing loyalties and emerging rivalries within the ruling coalition and beyond.
